Step By Step 10: Pixilation/Ghosting Effect
So to begin this effect you will need to gather your footage and then you will need to click "alt" and drag the clip above itself to duplicate it. Now that you have your cop you can now go to the effects and presets & select the posterize time option.
So now once you add this effect to the copied clip you will then want to go to the effects options which will open up a frame rate value. I set mine to 6 frames every 24 frames.
I then decided to make the colors pop so i added the RGB colour balance, i took the red a;; the way up to bring out the red lighting & decor.

So then i added a channel blur which allows me to blur out the colors to give a hallucinogenic feel towards it. I did also change it to make sure that the colors ran horizontal, this really highlights the red & adds a lot of flair & gives the feeling of intoxication.
Here below is the final effect.

Step By Step 9: Prism Effect
Okay so to start with this effect you first want to import your footage. Once you have that in place you then need to go to effects and presets & add in the chosen effect in this case that would be Replicate.
Okay now that you have dragged that effect onto the footage you will see that your screen looks like the image above, but that all tends on whether you have your count on more than two. so once you have the footage separated into these four squares, its time to create a more unique look tho i have saw this kind of design in fashion advertisements.
So what i did here was try and create a mask so that i could invert the footage itself, this is successfully achieved when you increase the mask expansion. I then added a feathering effect to give the aesthetic a much more pleasing look.
So once that has all been sorted i then chose to select the inverted box, which gave the following effect below. You can see the final effect below he image at the bottom.

Step By Step 7: Strobe Effect
So to create this effect you first need to import your footage over and drag it into the timeline. Once you have successfully done that you then need to go to your search bar on the effects and presets panel & select the "Strobe" effect.
Once you select the strobe effect this is what you will be seeing, a blank white screen. From here you have several options you can experiment with i tried changing the colour of the strobe as well as changing the speed of the strobes flash and the duration it would last.

So on the left you can see the options that come with it. One thing that i found very interesting was if you get two clips and put one on top of the other you can create a manually made transition. So this is what i tried to create. I started with changing the strobe color to black.
After that i selected make the layer transparent, this would allow clip 1 to overlap clip 2 as the strobe continues to function. And that is how you can create your own transition using a strobe. But to get the strobe to act out exactly how you want it to go, you will then need to move onto key frames.
So here is where you will create your key frames, i set mine from 100% to 0% after one frame then left a gap until the next clip starts to come in, which i then set the ending of the key frame to 0% to 100% this created the video that you will see below.

Step By Step 8: Masking Effect
This effect is just a useful effect to have in your arsenal, when news reporters catch pedestrians or children in the background they need consent forms otherwise there face is not allowed to be shown. How do you get around it? with masking.
So for this to work i first imported my footage, i selected who's face to blur out & selected the blur i will be using to achieve the best result. I will then drag the blur over to the clip, this will leave me with a bunch of different options for me to tweak & change to get the best look for the mask im after. So once my settings were the way i wanted which you can see in the image below, i started creating the mask itself.
Now obviously because i am masking over a face the ellipse tool is the best for the job, If you draw over & modify it to the shape of the characters head you will then be able to choose the amount of blur you want surrounding his/her face.
Once you have selected all of your options for the mask you then need it to track whoever is in the background of your shot as you don't want any slip ups. so there is an option to start tracking which will take around 3 to 5 minutes. Once that has rendered you will have something like this , the video clip is located at the bottom.

Step By Step 6: Eyedrop Effect
So to start this effect you first need to import your footage, i needed some form of footage that has an a ray of colors to really accentuate what this effect can achieve.
So first of all you will need to click "alt" and drag your original clip up to the next timeline creating a duplicate. You will then need to select the eyedropper effect and drag that onto the duplicate. Once you have that set you can move onto the next step.
So the first thing you will notice is that your screen will be all one color that is because the eyedropper tool takes the color that is in the center if the frame and fills it. So to be able to create the effect im looking for which is a light spill, i needed to change the sample point to 1151.0 % this gave me a better range of color as the center point had changed on the eyedropper.
so now what i needed to do was to make the second layer to have some form of transparency, i achieved this by selecting the opacity & changing the blend mode to "Screen". Below you can see an image of the warm look it creates. I really like this effect it would have great use when trying to accentuate a lovely day. When using this effect you really need a shot with some form of movement as well or you will have a very boring shot, that will do nothing for the effect as it needs movement & color to work.
Below is the finished effect, this is how the effect is suppose to work.

Step By Step 5: Echo Effect
The echo effect is a rather strange one as it displaces time & creates what looks like holograms. it would be good to show time passing by, a character day by day doing the same job, the same walk every day. i Feel like this is how you could depict that kind of effect. I personally really like this effect i think it could be very useful if used correctly . Moreover the way in which i created this effect was through the echo effect itself on the effect & preset menu.
I selected the echo effect & dragged it over to my clip this brought up several options on the effect panel. My first option was to change the time in which it takes for the clones of myself to follow. The next option was to select how many clones i wanted to follow, i chose four at first, then i went up-to six.
After i was finished tweaking with the settings i then started looking at the echo duration the one above is at minimum & the image above that is at maximum these are the two different effects you can create, there was other options but non of them worked, there was too much light. Below is the finished video displaying the effect.

Step By Step 4: Mirror Effect
So the next effect on my list was the Mirror effect, out of all the effects i have edited together this by far was the easiest & most simplest. It gives a fairly nice look, but i do find it to be a bit basic in its own way. So to set this effect up you first need to import your video clip.
Once you have imported your video clip you then want to go to the effects & presets panel & search for the mirror effect. Once you have located it you want to drag & drop onto your selected footage. at first you will not be able to see a difference that is until you change the values for the "reflection center" once you do that you will end up with something like this above.
There are other tweaks that you can make to the effect for instance if you want to capture a rather trippy effect like the one shown above, you need to change the "reflection angle" values. i used the values to set them vertical instead of horizontal which created the effect above.
Finally you can also fully spin the angle of the reflection so that its facing the opposite way horizontally and than drag it over to gain an effect like you can see above. below is the finished clip showcasing what the effect looks like in motion.
Step By Step 3: VHS Effect
To start this step by step i first had to import my clip. Once imported i began by selecting the section of the clip i wanted and transferring it to the timeline. Once i had selected the duration of the clip, i then had to duplicate the first clip twice stacking them on the above timelines. This allowed me again to use the blending tools to create mild distortion once i had changed the properties of each of them that is.
So now that i had the original & the copies overlapping it allowed me to change the blend mode to "Linear Dodge (Add)" this creates a form of transparency, this allows me to create a distorted look, but that bit comes later.
Next I had to create the distorted coloration of an old VHS recorder which is simple enough. So to create this effect you simply have to add the RGB color balance effect.
So once you have added the effect you need to then change each of the clips colour properties, one needs to bee 100% blue, another needs to be 100% green & the last needs to be 100% red.
Once this has been established and the properties have been changed then you can move onto the next step. The next step is to create a more visually distorted look you achieve this by going to each of the duplicate clips and changing the horizontal properties slightly to the left, the percentage i had it on was 960% which created the look that i was after, it took some experimenting to find out what worked & what didn't.
The next step you will need to right click onto your project panel, this will bring up a menu of options. I selected insert "Adjustment Layer" this crafts a plain layer that you can stack at the top, the advantages of this are that you can add any effect to the adjustment layer & it will effect every layer underneath. It saves having to add the same effect to each clip.
Now you will need to go to the effects & preset section & look up "Wave Warp". Once you have found it you then need to drag and drop it over the adjustment layer. this will effect each of the clips.
Once you have added wave warp you will notice that there is a lot of distortion & that will need to come down a bit, but first to create a more authentic looking VHS aesthetic, you will need a line of distortion. But you cannot do that with wavy lines, it needs to be more static so in order to achieve that look you first need to click onto your adjustment layer and select the effect options.
So now your on the options you will need to change the "Wave Type" to square. you now have a lot more options at your disposal, the first option to tweak at this point will be the wave height & width. The default for the height is 10% and the width is 40% which gave the effect on the left .
But to acquire the effect also to the left you will need to change the width to 800% and leave the height at 10% this will give a line of distortion running down the clip. the image on the left does say that the width is at 1000% but that was some experimentation gone wrong the distortion didn't work with such a wide rang.
Once all the values have been changed correctly you then need to make sure that pinning is set to "all edges".

Next step is to create some grain, so to accomplish this you have to locate "noise" in the effects panel and add it to your adjustment layer, this will allow you to turn up the amount of grain the clip has giving it a much more retro aesthetic.
The final touch was to add the old fashioned date on the top right hand side which was easily achievable by just selecting the title option, typing in the numbers you want selected & setting them up in the top right hand corner.
This is what the finished effect will look like, its not too bad it could be better but this one was definitely the most challenging to achieve.
Down below is the finished effect in its entirety check it out.

Step By Step 2: Pixel Effect
So for my next experimental piece i chose an effect that seemed rather interesting, i found an effect that creates a pixel like mask over the top of your footage & once i played around with the effects properties i realized there were some interesting designs you can come up with here is an example along with my second step by step guide, again the final piece will be listed at the end.
So first i had to import my selected clip, i chose this clip from Andrews MMI that i was camera - op on. So once i had imported the clip i then pressed "Alt" and dragged the clip above onto the next timeline duplicating the following clip. This allows us to use the blending options again creating some rather spectacular visual effects.
So to locate the desired effect, you first need to go to your effects & presets, there you find the effects folder, i scrolled down until i found the "stylize"option which opens up a variety of options, the one in particular that you are looking for is "Mosaic". You then need to drag and drop the effect on top of the copied clip. You will then be [resented with the effect in the image above. to control & manipulate the effect you will need to move onto the next step, changing the properties of the effect.
You are presented with three options once you get to the effects panel, the first two allow you to change the amount of vertical & horizontal blocks. I changed my horizontal to 75 & my vertical to 3 this gave the effect you see above. As you can see you are now seeing the shapes of the original clip coming through but in order to make that more visible you will have to go to the opacity settings on the copied clip & change the blend mode to "Screen".
Once you have changed the blending mode you will be left with the effect located above, its a striking effect which could be used for such things as music videos & other forms of artistic & out there media. The finished effect is located below.

Step By Step 1: Glitch Effect
My first experimentation is fairly simple and only involves one effect to create. Here is the step by step guide in order to achieve the effect i am showcasing. I will also have the effect in its entirety at the end.
So first i imported my clip into the timeline. Once i had my clip i then used the razor tool to cut up individual parts of the clip. Once i had them lined up i then had to delete a segment after each & every other segment. This created a jump effect which is the foundation of the glitch effect.
So once i had my jump cuts in place i then had to copy several of the segments & them on the timeline above. e i had them in place & all lined up i then was able to go to the effects of the copied segments & change the properties for both opacity & motion. So i selected the copy & changed the opacity to 75% but there was no change, to see the difference you would have to apply a blend mode, i selected "Linear Dodge (Add)" this allowed to blend both the copied & original layers together which creates an overlap. So now that i had the overlap i could now use the motion property on the copy to manipulate the movement of the glitch effect. I changed the default position of the copy to 932% pushing it slightly to the left creating the effect you see below.
I did experiment with trying to key-frame the motion but came out with no success so i stuck with the more jumpy look. I did also change the motion of the vertical motion properties to a higher percentage but it resulted in the
overlap to be obscured.
So once i had changed the properties of one of the copies i doubled up the next two & applied the same changes to the properties pushing one of the copies to the left & one to the right. this created i nice animated effect, but to really have the glitch look technological it would be a good idea to add the implication of a malfunction like effect with the colors distorting. In order to achieve this i had to go to the effects search bar and look for RGB colour balance, once i added this to the separate individual copies i began to experiment with different colour changes. I chose to just change each individual one to a different colour which finally once i rendered & exported gave me the following effect.
